Informative link below...will tell you all about the different layers in Sedona and surrounding areas...Such as the Coconino Sandstone layer which is approximately 270,000,000 million years old, which is young in comparison to some of the deepest layers in the Grand Canyon.  There with some digging could find some of the oldest rocks on Earth at a whopping 3.8 Billion years old...
